Kidnapping, False Imprisonment by Violence and Brandishing a Firearm at Police Officers Charges Dismissed

October 2020

Our client was charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment with violence and brandishing a firearm upon two police officers.  According to arrest reports, our client struck two parked cars and allegedly kidnapped witnesses at gunpoint when they tried to detain him until police arrived.  Upon arrival, the officers shot our client several times in the back after he failed to comply with their orders and walked away.  A gun was recovered next to our client.  As part of a negotiated disposition, the District Attorney dismissed the most serious charges that could have sent our client to prison for over 20 years.  Our client entered a plea of no contest to a reduced charge of resisting arrest and was sentenced to 3 years of probation and no custody time.
