Gross Vehicular Manslaughter Charges Reduced to Reckless Driving in High Speed Accident Involving Death

Our client was originally charged with vehicular manslaughter involving gross negligence. It was alleged that the client lost control of his vehicle while traveling at speeds between 90+ mph in a 35mph zone. LAPD traffic collision investigators initially concluded that the decedent was a pedestrian. However, the defense investigation uncovered video evidence debunking this theory and revealed the decedent was ejected from the vehicle and was the only passenger not wearing a seatbelt. All other passengers walked away from the collision. Following a complete review of all defense evidence and mitigation materials, the DA offered a disposition that included a plea to a reduced charge of reckless driving, 24 months of probation, HAM/MADD classes, and the ability to earn a misdemeanor.
